Former Detroit Lions cornerback Cam Sutton turned himself in for domestic abuse charges in Hillsborough County, Florida, on Sunday after weeks on the run.

The Hillsborough County sheriff's office said Sutton turned himself in at the Orient Road Jail at 8:24 p.m. on Sunday, over a week after his attorney told them he would.

Sheriff Chad Chronister's statement "After weeks of evading law enforcement, this man has finally made the right choice to turn himself in"

On March 7, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office issued a warrant for his arrest after responding to a domestic violence incident involving Sutton and an unnamed female.

When officers arrived, the cornerback was gone.

When Lions president Rod Wood learned of Sutton's arrest warrant, he advised him to bring himself up.

Wood discussed Sutton's position with the media on March 25. "We were learning it the same moment you guys were learning about the warrant," Wood told Florida reporters March 25.

It appeared on my phone while I was on a Zoom conversation with the league over another subject. After that call, we swiftly met to discuss it.We spoke to Cam and advised him to get counsel and give himself in.
